Terms for Children and Parents/Guardians of Children under 13
Protection of Children's Information
It is our intention to make this Website a safe environment on the Internet for children, youth, and adults to explore volunteering and community service. We involve parents and legal guardians in, and to keep them informed of, the online activities of their children.
In compliance with The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998, the Institute endeavors to make sure that all parents/guardians are informed about how we collect, use, and disclose any and all personal information collected from children under the age of 13. The Institute works to ensure that it receives consent from all parents and guardians before their children register to use this Website.
Children of all ages may view and explore the Website without submitting any personal information. However, participation in certain online activities (including the interactive “Make Your Mark Map” and submitting a “real story” about volunteer experiences) requires that all children “join generationOn” by registering and creating a free generationOn user account.
In order to register, all children under the age of 13 must submit the following information: first name, last name, age, parent/guardian email address and password.
Please note: we recommend that all children ask their parents or legal guardians to assist them in signing up to join the Website.
We will use personally identifiable information from our online registration to send registered users information about this Website, the Institute and its various projects and initiatives, or to communicate with users about a project in which you are participating. For children under the age of 13, emails will be sent to the parent/guardian whose email address was given at the time of registration.
Receiving Parental Consent Before Your Child Joins the Website
Once a child has registered to join the Website, a confirmation email message will be sent to the parent/guardian whose address was entered during registration. In that email, the parent/guardian will receive instructions on how to access their child’s personal account page, how to view their history on the Website, how to update their personal account information, and how to delete their account. At any time following registration, all registered users, including children under the age of 13, may opt-out of receiving any additional email announcements and e-newsletters from us by following contacting us email at email@example.com by telephone at (917) 746-8182 or by mail at 281 Park Avenue South, 6th Floor, New York City, N.Y. 10016.and inform us of this choice.
