With service-learning and volunteer action at its core, generationOn mobilizes the energy, ingenuity and compassion of all young people, starting at an early age, to discover their power and potential to solve real world problems through service. generationOn is the national youth and education arm of Points of Light.

generationOn is taking a comprehensive approach to improving our schools and the lives of children. As the youth, family and education division of Points of Light, generationOn brings the expertise of Children for Children , the LEAGUE, Kids Care Clubs, Learning to Give, HandOn Schools and HandsOn Action Centers youth driven programs together under one banner.

POSITION SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES

generationOn seeks a new Vice President for Development to be the leader of fundraising through individual, governmental, corporate and private foundation philanthropy. Reporting to the new Executive Director of generationOn, he/she will lead prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. He/she will also be responsible for a portfolio of donors contributing to internal revenue goals, will integrate with and support the fundraising activities of Points of Light, and will be responsible for the creation and execution of all major fundraising campaigns and special events for generationOn.

The successful candidate will be a dynamic, sophisticated, entrepreneurial, experienced fundraising executive who is passionate about the opportunity to shape the future of the development department and the organization as a whole.

Working closely with the new Executive Director of generationOn and the Chief Development Officer of Points of Light, the Vice President for Development will oversee a team of two and fundraising initiatives and strategies to build, enhance and diversify revenue goals and opportunities at generationOn. He/she will coordinate and collaborate with Points of Light’s development staff on the creation and management of prospect pipelines and on the execution of the cultivation cycle. He/she will lead a team of two and be a member of the senior leadership team

Among the Key expectations for the Vice President of Development, generationOn:

Revenue Development:

  • The Vice President for Development designs the structure for successful annual individual, foundation, and government funding campaigns, creates and implements the year-end annual campaign, coordinates with cross organizational campaigns, and develops and executes online giving strategies, special event and recognition opportunities, and highly individualized direct solicitations
  • Leads a board giving solicitation campaign in conjunction with the Chief Development Officer at Points of Light and Executive Director of generationOn.
  • Supports the Executive Office with task management, briefing documents for major donor meetings, and meets with and cultivates new individual donors

Board Relations and Partnerships:

  • The Vice President for Development works closely with and engages the generationOn Advisory Board, national Board members and volunteers committed to the development and stewardship of generationOn’s mission. He/she will build and strengthen strategic alliances in the community on a local, national and global scale.

Staff Management:

  • The Vice President for Development manages and coaches the Development team toward excellent performance, professionalism, achievement of revenue goals, collaboration, innovation, and professional growth. He/she ensures agency values are consistently upheld within the team

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL ATTRIBUTES

Key Professional Attributes:

  • Five years of fundraising and management experience;
  • Successful track record of personally identifying, cultivating and soliciting major individual and institutional donors;
  • Outstanding communication skills, articulate and persuasive, with well-honed relationship-building skills;
  • Excellent research, prospecting and special event skills;
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent computer skills, including database management;
  • Familiarity with the New York City philanthropic community.

  • A high degree of personal initiative with the desire and ability to meet aggressive revenue goals.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and creative approach to strategy development.

  • Ability to represent the organization to multiple constituents.
